Chelsea’s away supporters were left in despair after witnessing another woeful miss from Gonzalo Higuain on Sunday.
Just before half time in their final game of the season at Leicester, the Argentinian forward failed to break the deadlock from six yards as he struggled to get the ball out from under his feet and remarkably fired wide of the target
In response to the shocker, the Blues’ travelling support began to sing the name of Tammy Abraham – their 21-year-old forward currently on loan at Aston Villa.
Abraham has spent the vast majority of his life at Stamford Bridge as he joined the club in 2004 – aged just six.
The Englishman has risen through the youth ranks and concluded his early career by starring as Chelsea won consecutive FA Youth Cup and UEFA League doubles in 2015 and 2016.
He began playing senior football in 2016 and spent a successful loan season at Bristol City, scoring 26 goals in 48 appearances.
Abraham then had a less than impressive year with Swansea which saw his stock fall dramatically, though he’s now redeemed himself with 26 goals in 38 games for Villa in 2018/19.
Despite being yet to prove himself in the top flight, Abraham could be integrated into Chelsea’s plans next season as the club have an impending transfer ban which could prevent them from securing an alternative replacement for Higuain.
