Premier League side Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Bristol City striker Antoine The 19-year-old has caught the eye on loan at Sky Bet League Two side Newport County in the first half of this season – the striker has scored six goals in 32 games for the Exiles, and was also mightily impressive against both Leicester City and Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
The forward, who has recently been recalled by Lee Johnson’s Robins, has been alerting interest from the likes of Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea. But reports have now surfaced that the latter, after submitting a bid to sign the highly-rated youngster, are closing in on a deal to sign the forward, who has made just one senior appearance for the Robins. The sale of Semenyo could be beneficial for City in the latter stages of the transfer window – Lee Johnson’s men currently sit 7th in the Sky Bet Championship table, two points off the play-off spots after four league wins on the bounce. The Verdict
What a dreamy move for Semenyo this is, from starring in League Two to signing for Chelsea in just a matter of days. I’m not so sure that this move is right for the youngster however – Chelsea have gained a bad reputation over the last couple of years for their treatment of young players. The likes of Ethan Ampadu signed for the Blues from League Two a couple of years ago, but has barely been given a look-in at Stamford Bridge.
